By Zoila Palma: It’s a Belizean-made coffee, perfect for those early morning go-getters.

Oxmul Coffee is a new product created and produced by San Antonio resident, James Mesh, and family.

Mesh has always been a coffee lover and about 10 years ago, the family began challenging why coffee was not grown and produced in Belize.

At that time, the Mesh family planted 3 coffee plants and took good care of them. Then, 2.5 years later, they burst with excitement when the coffee plants produced the first coffee beans.

The family continued to conduct their own research and their plans began to expand on introducing organically produced coffee to the people of Belize, a production that would be environmentally friendly.

By March 9, 2021, the dream of their family became a reality with the creation of Oxmul coffee, a full-fledged Belizean-made product.

The brand was named after the original name of San Antonio in the Cayo District in Yucatec Maya known as Ox Mul Kah.

Mesh explained to BBN that the harvest time was from November to February. The coffee fruits are harvested from the coffee trees, coffee beans extracted from the fruits, sun-dried, shelled, roasted, ground, and packaged. The coffee plants are grown under shade trees.

The entire coffee processing is done by the Mesh Family in their hometown.

“The aim of the business is to provide organic coffee to the local population and the country of Belize so that our people can enjoy of the taste of good coffee production in Belize. To the small businesses of course there are challenges but it is important to keep focused on your goal especially these challenging times,” the Mesh family said.

The Oxmul Coffee family thanks the Belizean people for supporting their dream and local business.
