By Zoila Palma: The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), as part of the continuous support in responding to COVID-19, donated 10,000 medical masks each to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade & Immigration, the Customs and Excise Department and the Belize Red Cross Society.

The organizations will distribute the masks to those working on the frontlines.

Dr. Gilroy Middleton, CEO of the Ministry thanked the organizations for the donation and said that it will assist public officers working in their offices at ports and border stations countrywide.

Dr. Gilbert Gordon, Deputy Comptroller of Customs received the donations and thanked PAHO/WHO for assisting in protecting officers.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Belize Red Cross was  Marley Ack-Goodin, COVID-19 Relief Project Manager/Volunteer manager.

“The Belize Red Cross Society is guided by the fundamental principles with our main goal to reach the most vulnerable persons wherever they are found. COVID-19 has impacted our country to a great extent, and it has been challenging for our organization to reach out to everyone who is affected by the pandemic. However, through support from PAHO, we have reached out to more families through the COVID19 Relief Project. We have distributed over 10,000 hygiene kits to frontline workers, staff, and communities across the country. Through strengthened partnership and collaboration, we can achieve more. I hope that we continue to work together to promote health and safety and “all things humanitarian” as we share a common goal to serve Belize,” Goodin said.

PAHO/WHO Belize continues to partner with the various ministries and organizations and support the country and the Government of Belize to stay safe while combating the fight against COVID-19.
