Belize is getting 33,600 vaccines on Wednesday, March 31

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize will be receiving 33,600 AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX facility on Wednesday, March 31.

According to Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) sources, so far 17 countries have received COVAX vaccines and three more countries are receiving vaccines during the last two days of the month.

So far, 2,479,280 vaccines had been delivered to countries in Central America, the Caribbean and South America, 100,800 are on the way for a total of 2,580,080 vaccines.

Guyana got 24,000 yesterday, the Bahamas will receive 33,600 on today Tuesday, and Belize and Trinidad and Tobago will get a similar amount on Wednesday.

Belize previously received 1,000 from Barbados and 25,000 from India.

When the COVAX vaccines get here, Belize will have received 59,600 shots.

So far, over 20,000 people have been vaccinated since the vaccination campaign was rolled out at the beginning of the month.

The countries receiving the biggest numbers of COVAX vaccines are Brazil with 1,022,400, Colombia (244,800), Bolivia (228,000) and Argentina (218,000).

The countries that have received the least are Jamaica (14,400) and Suriname and Guyana (24,000)

In Central America, Nicaragua have received 135,000, El Salvador 85,080 in two deliveries, Guatemala 81,600, and Honduras 48,000.

Most countries are receiving AstraZeneca vaccines, though some have received vaccines from Pfizer and Serum Life Sciences Limited.

Of the total 2,580,080 doses, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina have bought their own vaccines. The rest were acquired by PAHO.
