Governor of Central Bank Joy Grant leaves her post on Wednesday

Posted: Tuesday, March 30, 2021. 4:07 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Change is coming to the Central Bank of Belize, as its first woman Governor, Ambassador A. Joy Grant, CMG, is set to complete her tenure on Wednesday.

A statement from the Bank gave thanks to Ambassador Grant for her leadership and best wishes for future success.

The former Senator and Government Minister, appointed by Prime Minister Dean Barrow, in turn offered her thanks for the Bank’s workers’ support in her tenure; the support of fellow financial institutions and incumbent Prime Minister John Briceno for supporting her arrangements to see out her tenure at the Bank.

The Bank credits its former Governor for establishing a new strategic direction and steady management of day-to-day operations; and ensuring targeted policy responses to support the financial system during unprecedented and challenging times. These included the rollout of a national payment system known as APS3 among others.

A successor has reportedly been identified but he must be confirmed by the Governor-General on the advice of the Prime Minister.
