By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “Palm Sunday! Today would have been the Women’s Cross Country Classic. Due to the current state of sports caused by the pandemic, the race has been canceled. Nevertheless, I’m here in San Ignacio at the start line!’” Kaya wrote on Facebook before she took to the road. “Blow your horn if you see me on the George Price Highway between now and midday…I’ll be doing my version of the Cross Country from San Ignacio to Hattieville!”
She cycled from San Ignacio to Hattieville, a total of 55.4 miles covering the distance in 3 hours, 25 minutes, and 27 seconds at a speed of 15.7 miles per hour. Maybe not what she would have done in a real race, but good enough after more than a year of no races due to the pandemic.
It’s definitely not the custom, but that’s the present-day reality.
2022 might just be.
