Roque Matus wins Stage two in Guatemala International Masters Cycling Tour, Phillip Burns was best ranked Belizean

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: No competitive cycling is happening much less the Holy Saturday Cross Country, so Belizean cyclists have started going out of the country to get some action.

Last weekend Roque Matus won Stage 2 of the four-stage Guatemala International Masters Tour held in the mountains of Guatemala.

At the end of the four stages in the Masters A category, Phillip Burns was 9th overall, Roque Matus was 11th, Edison Usher finished 15th and Ryan Willoughby 18th.

The races started in the cities of Sanarate, Barbarena, Escuintla, and Tecpán.

Edison “Vintage” Usher said it was very mountainous terrain and that Burns finished fourth in the first stage and thereafter they all rode for him.

The second day, however, Belize had two riders on the podium as Roque, who is no stranger to races in Guatemala, won the stage, with Burns close behind in the third spot.

Burns continued being the best positioned Belizean rider up to the end.

Guatemala cyclist Herbert Segura of team Opticas Deluxe won the stage race.
