COVID-19 cases and deaths continue rising worldwide, the United States has surpassed 552,000 deaths

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The United States continues being the country with the highest number of deaths due to COVID-19 by far, but numbers in Brazil are rising fast.

So far, the United States has recorded 552,072 deaths with 11,770 cases over the last two weeks. The US has reported 30,460,730 cases total.

In Brazil, where hospitals are being overrun and their health system is on the verge of collapse, 321,515 deaths have been recorded with 34,016 cases over the last two weeks. Brazil is also in second place in total number of cases with 12,748,747.

Mexico is third place in number of deaths with 203,210, India is fourth with 162,927, while Italy is in 5th place with 109,346.

Up to today, the world has reported 2,766,396 deaths out of a total of 127,858,205 COVID-19 cases.

683,042 cases and 12,262 deaths are reported daily.

Since the vaccination campaign rolled out, 596 million vaccinations have been given.

In Central America, Guatemala has reported 6,840 deaths, Panama – 6114, Honduras – 4,605, Costa Rica – 2,957, El Salvador – 2,006, Belize – 317, and Nicaragua – 178.

Panama has recorded the highest number of cases in Central America with 355,051. Panama follows with 216,764, Guatemala – 193,834, Honduras – 189,043, El Salvador – 64,431, Belize – 12,456, and Nicaragua – 6,677.

In the Caribbean, Jamaica has recorded 696 deaths, Cuba – 424, Haiti – 252, the Bahamas – 188, Trinidad and Tobago – 142, Saint Lucia – 60, Barbados – 42, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines – 10.

The other North American country, Canada, has reported 22,960 deaths.
