The Belize City Council (BCC) names its website to assist Belizeans abroad as the Hubert Pipersburgh Diaspora Help Desk

Posted: Thursday, April 1, 2021. 9:06 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize City Council (BCC) said it has rebranded its website which provides assistance to foreign-based Belizeans as the Hubert Pipersburgh Diaspora Help Desk.

The website has been named in honour of the late Hubert Pipersburgh, the first Belizean who died of COVID-19 last year and who was the Belize City Council’s Manager for Local Economic Development.

The BCC said the Help Desk has been upgraded to include a number of new functions and features available to the Belizean Diaspora Community.

Pipersburgh worked continuously toward setting up a Help Desk to improve communications between the Belize City Council and members of the Belizean Diaspora for the purpose of mutual support and assistance.

The BCC said that because of his efforts they now have a Help Desk which provides services in key areas such as: Property, Business Development, Investments, Transport, and Sister City Relations.

The website will feature Diaspora Belizeans who have make contributions to Belize and the Belize City Council will grant six awards yearly to them. Four awards will be presented on a quarterly basis. The fifth award will be a Youth Award and the sixth will be the Hubert Pipersburgh Diaspora of the Year Award which will highlight the generous contributions made by Belizeans living abroad.

The Hubert Pipersburgh Diaspora Help Desk will also have a registration feature which will allow the BCC to capture valuable contact data and afford Belizeans living abroad the opportunity to win annual prizes leading up to a grand prize draw for a 5-Night Belizean vacation.

The Help Desk is now working on improving its contact functions through the implementation of Diaspora Liaison Officers in various locations such as Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Houston, and New York.

The Belize City Council said: “All these advancements would not be possible without the vision of our friend and colleague, Hubert Pipersburgh. We continue to foster his objectives to fortify the relationships between Belizeans living at home and abroad, and we encourage our Belizean Diaspora members to visit the Hubert Pipersburgh Diaspora Help Desk and see how you can benefit from these new services.”
