Accident victims, father and son, laid to rest in Georgeville today

By Benjamin Flowers: Lionel “Chabo” Chavarria and his stepson Charles Staine Јоnеѕ, both of whom died in a road traffic accident on Friday, March 26, are being laid to rest in Georgeville, Cayo district, today.

Their memorial service was held at 10 a.m. at the family’s residence located on the George Price Highway in the village.

The men were casualties in an accident, which left five people, one of them a minor, injured. The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26 in front of Redmond’s farm near Georgeville.

Ian Staine, who was inside the vehicle when the accident occurred said that Chavarria had pulled over to the side of the road to speak to one Hubert Pandy when a pickup truck driven by 39-year-old Mario Aldana came at high speed and crashed into them. Staine said that he could see the lights, but the incident unfolded too quickly for him to utter a warning.

Staine was flung from the vehicle on impact while Chavarria died on the scene and Jones died en route to the San Ignacio Community Hospital.

Following the incident, police charged Aldana with twо соuntѕ оf mаnѕlаughtеr bу nеglіgеnсе; twо соuntѕ оf саuѕіng dеаth bу саrеlеѕѕ соnduсt, аnd оnе соunt еасh оf nеglіgеnt wоundіng; drіvіng wіthоut duе саrе аnd аttеntіоn; drіvіng wіthоut а vаlіd drіvеr’ѕ реrmіt; аnd fаіlurе tо рrоvіdе ѕресіmеn.
