Run 5k, Feed 5 Strays on the occasion of World Stray Animals Day, April 4

Posted: Sunday, April 4, 2021. 2:43 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Run 5K, Feed 5 Strays virtual run organized by Belize City Animal Aid started today.

The virtual run, in celebration of World Stray Animals Day on April 4, ends on April 18.

According to Web plus.info, there are 600 million stray animals in the world, particularly dogs and cats.

“Dogs and cats should have a home,” said an article in Webplus.info. “But stray dogs and cats don’t. They lead poor and miserable lives on the streets. They are ill-fed, suffer from extreme heat or cold, and suffer from diseases. Even more often, they are being chased around by hostile and violent people. But we, as people who care about animals, can do something.”

The Belize City Animal Aid is doing something. All proceeds from the Run 5K, Feed 5 Strays virtual run will be used by the organization “for the rescuing, feeding, treating, vaccinating, and neutering of stray animals.”

Like other virtual runs, the Run 5K, Feed 5 Stars is an event in which participants can participate from any location, any time of the day. The organizers say the participants “run/jog/walk your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.”

Registration for the event at https://totaltimebz.com/ is BZ$10 if the participant is in Belize or US$10 if the participant is outside of Belize. Registration will remain open until April 18.

Participants record their time on “Any capable device using your fitness app of choice to record your distance can be used, NOTE: ELAPSED TIME will be used as your race time. You can also use your GPS watch.”

The awards for this run are as follows:

Men’s winner: Serendib/Fidus Pro Gift Card, First Class Grooming Gift Card, 1 case Powerade.

Women’s winner: Wet Nose & Whiskers Gift Card, 1 case Powerade.

2nd in both categories: 1 case Powerade, 1 crystal tumbler.

3rd in both categories: 1 case Powerade.

The organizers said participants should “Remember to maintain physical distancing of 10meters/33 feet if running behind someone.”
