By Zoila Palma: Belize has joined with other countries and begun waiving the requirement for a negative COVID-19 test for travelers who have been vaccinated.
And, as more people around the world are getting their shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, there are more discussions on a ‘vaccination status passport’ for travel.
Those seeking to book a cruise are now only required to show proof that they have been vaccinated. Guests and crew on major cruise lines are now required to adhere to obtain their vaccine and adhere to vaccine protocols, Insider reports. Royal Caribbean has announced a series of fully vaccinated cruises that will require both crew members and guests to be fully vaccinated. The proof can be a vaccine card or a digital confirmation, referred to as a ‘vaccine passport’.
Airlines are not yet requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for international travel but recent developments suggest that this may be the path taken by airlines as well.
Meanwhile, Ecuador, like Belize, has made travel easier for fully vaccinated people by waiving the quarantine requirements as well. The European Union is also hoping to launch a vaccine passport program by June for vaccinated travelers to move without restrictions between member states.
In addition, the World Health Organization is in the process of developing standards which will be used to issue digital vaccine certificates.
