By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Real Madrid hosts Liverpool while Manchester City do the same with Borussia Dortmund as the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals get underway on Tuesday, April 6.

Then, on Wednesday, in a re-edition of last year’s finals, champions Bayern Munich receive Paris Saint Germain while FC Porto are going to be at home against Chelsea.

As you can see, three English clubs made it to the Last 8, two German sides, and one each from Spain, France, and Portugal.

Three Spanish clubs, namely Barcelona, Atletico de Madrid, and Sevilla were dropped in the previous round along with Italian clubs Juventus, Atalanta, and Lazio.

The Real Madrid vs Liverpool match pits two of the top teams in Europe against each other. After all, between them they’ve won the Champions League 19 times, though Madrid more than double Liverpool 13 to 6.

Real Madrid’s star defender and captain Sergio Ramos will miss both legs against Liverpool due to calf muscle injury, but Madrid still have the likes of Luka Modrić and Karim Benzema to take on Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané.

The other encounter on Tuesday pits Manchester City against Borussia Dortmund. City, who under manager Pepo Guardiola have transformed themselves, are gunning for the European crown. They have won all their last six games both at home and away against German teams, while Borussia Dortmund are on the opposite side of that record having lost their last five encounters against English clubs. City are counting Kevin De Bruyne, but Dortmund sport the hottest player in Europe right now in Erling Haaland.

On Wednesday, Chelsea, featuring Oliver Giroud and Timo Erner, are favoured over Porto who despite losing Mehdi Termi and Sérgio Oliveira to suspensions, still have Mexican Jesús Manuel “Tecatito” Corona in midfield. Plus, the Portuguese side have been strengthened mentally by their win over Juventus and Cristiano in the Round of 16. Both legs are to be played in Sevilla, Spain.

As to the Bayern Munich-PSG clash nothing much needs to be said because any way you look at it, it’s a must-see match. Not only does PSG have it in for Bayern after losing last year’s finals, but if either want to win it this year, they must leave the other behind. PSG are hoping that pairing Kylian Mbappé with the recently recovered Neymar will give them the edge considering Bayern don’t have top striker Robert Lewandowski for neither of the two legs due to injury. But the Germans can still count on Leroy Sané, Kingsley Coman, and Thomas Müller.
