By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Brandon Adolphus and Ana Lopez wOn the virtual Chiquibul Challenge Marathon, which started on March 20 and closed on March 31.
Seven people, including two women participated.
Adolphus ran the 42.2 kilometers in 2 hours, 52 minutes flat.
Ana Lopez won the women’s category in 3:51:51.
“1st marathon ever!!! N dipped under that sub 3hr!!,” Adolphus said on Facebook. “Firstly, I wanna thank God for making all things possible. Thank you to those people assisting on this virtual Race, the help was surely appreciated. Now I can surely say that I am a marathoner.”
Both Adolphus and Lopez have won the last three events they’ve participated in.
The Chiquibul Challenge Marathon is an annual fundraiser event in support of the wildlife and conservation work by BWRC and Friends for Conservation and Development and in effect includes a half marathon. (See full results at totaltimebz.com
Though it is usually run at Las Cuevas Research Station in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve, this year, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, it had to be done virtually spread out through a period of 12 days.
Second place was taken by Francisco Lima Caal who ran the marathon in 3:03:46.
Third place was claimed by Luis August after clocking 3:15:11.
Dave Cox with a time of 3:49:09 was fourth. Juan Santos finished 5th in 3:53:32.
Ana Lopez won the women’s race ahead of the only other participant Evelyn Zuleta who recorded 4:39:53 for second place.
