Pan American Road Cycling Championships set for May in Argentina have been cancelled due COVID-19

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Pan American Road Cycling Championships that were to be held in Argentina in May have been cancelled due to the spike of COVID-19 cases in that South American country.

A joint press release by the Cycling Union of Argentina, the Argentina Cycling Federation and the Sanjuanina Cycling Federation said yesterday that due to the restrictions imposed by the Argentina government they were canceling the Pan American Road Championships which were to have been held in San Juan, Argentina from May 6 to 9.

The Argentina government said it was not allowing international events that are not Olympic qualifying games apart from restricting international flights into Argentina from countries affected by the pandemic.

The Pan American Cycling Confederation (COPACI) said that in the coming weeks, COPACI will be looking for a new venue and date for the Pan American Road Cycling Championships and that in the coming weeks they should have made a decision.
