By Rubén Morales Iglesias: International news reports say a court in Russia has imposed a US$34,000 fine on popular social media TikTok for inciting minors to protest.
The court reportedly said TikTok did not delete posts that asked minors to join protests in support of a Russian opposition leader and anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny.
Navalny opposes the government of Vladimir Putin and has been organizing anti-government demonstrations.
The court said that TikTok was fined 2.6 million rubles, equivalent to US$34,000 in the latest tension between the Russian government and the digital platforms.
On Friday, a Moscow imposed three fines on Twitter ordering the social media to pay 8.9 million rubles (US$116,700), for the same violation as TikTok.
