Legendary rapper DMX dies of complications after heart attack

Posted: Friday, April 9, 2021. 1:55 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Legendary New York rapper DMX died on Friday morning, according to a statement by his family.

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” said the family’s statement. “Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him.”

DMX who was 50 years old was hospitalized last week after suffering a heart attack at his home in New York and had been in a coma since then.

Immediately, artists, athletes, and other celebrities paid tribute to him on social media on Friday, CNN reported.

“I just need to have a purpose,” DMX once said. “And I don’t even know that purpose, because God has given me that purpose since before I was in the womb, so I’m going to fulfill that purpose … whether I want to or not, whether I know it or not, because the story has already been written. If you appreciate the good, then you have to accept the bad.”

“I remember my whole entire Standard 5 class at St. Ignatius singing Ruff Ryder’s Anthem word for word on class trips and school dances,” BBN News Editor, Alexis Milan said.

‘Ruff Ryders Anthem’ was his signature hit propelling him to stardom.

“My childhood and love for music would not have been the same without this man,” actor Chriss Redd tweeted. “DMX was easily my favorite artist growing up. I had every album, every ruff Ryder song, followed any artist he endorsed. Man….RIP the dog. There will never be another like him.”

DMX (Dark Man X) began his career in the 1990s with his debut album, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot,” released in 1998.

Other albums he released included “…And Then There Was X,” in 1999, “Get At Me Dog” in 1998, “Party Up,” in 1999, and “X Gon’ Give It to Ya,” in 2003.

DMX also appeared in several movies including “Romeo Must Die” and “Cradle 2 The Grave.”

As with many an artist, DMX ran into problems with substance abuse and run-ins with the law, including being sentenced to one year in prison for tax fraud in 2017.
