Minister Julius Espat says he called Patrick “bway” on basis of immaturity and wasn’t racial

By Zoila Palma: Today’s Sitting of the House of Representatives had its usual sparks and the Opposition walked out during a presentation being made by the Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing, Julius Espat.

When addressing the Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Faber, Espat called him “bway” at one point during the exchange.

Espat issued a statement a short while ago saying that the Opposition walked out because they were upset with the works occurring over the country.

“The opposition chose to walk out of the House of Representatives today, and left their constituents unrepresented due to the fact that they were upset with the unprecedented Infrastructure work that The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing has been doing all over the country,” Espat says.

He also clarified that he referred to Faber as “bway” on the basis of immaturity and not from racial connotation.

“During the discourse I used the word “bway”, and it was used on the basis of immaturity, and never from an alleged racial connotation as was insinuated by a leading member of the media who took his cue from the two opposition members,” Espat added.

Espat says that he proudly represents many ethnicities and the work being done impacts all Belizeans.

“We are all the same,” he ended.
