The nation continues to experience an increase in COVID-19 infections with 1,955 reported on Thursday, April 8.
According to Prensa Libre, the 6,977 COVID-19 deaths have now made Guatemala, the Central American nation with the most COVID-19 deaths.
To date, the country has seen over 200,000 COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, last month, the country received its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility.
The country received 81,600 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization.
