Posted: Monday, April 12, 2021. 1:24 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean Ambassador Dr. Candice Pitts who last week presented her credentials to the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has been doing her rounds and is getting to know the country.

Today, Ambassador Pitts cooked a Belizean breakfast which was recorded on video for the Taipei International Food Show, according to the Embassy of Belize Facebook page.

“For real, for real. I was in the kitchen. All the way in Taiwan. Fried cakes, fried beans, scrambled eggs, happy cow cheese, Marie Sharp’s pepper,” Ambassador Pitts wrote on her own Facebook page. “Hope I represented Belize well. Hope I made my mom proud (for those who don’t know, she is the cook by profession.)”

The Embassy of Belize in Taiwan said that “One of the benefits of the bilateral relationship between Belize and Taiwan is the opportunity inherent for cultural diplomacy and tourism promotion.”

“The food show is an opportunity for our Ambassador to expose Taiwanese to Belizean cultures through Belizean cuisine,” the Embassy of Belize Facebook post said. “The YouTube video will be available for viewing at the International Food Show in June.”

Last week, Ambassador Candice Pitts went on her first business trip to the City of Kaohsiung where she paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor Chen Chi-mai. She also visited companies that are potential business partners for Belize. Some of the seafood importers she visited included, Gallant Ocean International Inc., Great Hung Enterprise Co. Ltd., First Marine Enterprise Co. Ltd., Johnson Seafood Co. Ltd., and United Ocean Foods Co. Ltd.

The Embassy of Belize said on a Facebook post that “the importers expressed interest in creating or strengthening commercial ties with Belize through our embassy in ROC (Taiwan).”

“Belize needs to take advantage of the opportunities to export seafood products to Taiwan,” Pitts said. “We are ushering in an era of new possibilities for Belize and Taiwan.”

She also visited KYMCO, a leading manufacturer of scooters, and said she was trying to encourage them to become friendlier to our region.

On Sunday she attended a church service where she was asked to be one of the Lectors.

On March 28, Ambassador Pitts met with the executive body of the Belize-Taiwan Association.,

“They are a wonderful and admirable set of students. I am impressed by their research topics and the fluency with which they explained their scholarly interests,” Ambassador Pitts said. “Importantly, their research topics are so germane and significant to Belize, we must find efficient ways to expose more Belizeans to their ideas and the benefits of their studies. I look forward to working more with our students and the Belizean community in Taiwan!”
