By Zoila Palma: Guatemalan authorities are gravely concerned about an increase in COVID-19 cases that has driven hospitals to be almost filled to capacity with patients, Prensa Libre reports.
Today, the Vice Minister of Hospitals, Francisco Coma said that there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases and that the total occupancy in the national hospitals and temporary hospitals for severe patients is 74%.
Coma said that the availability for beds for critical patients has now decreased.
Coma says that they are trying to expand the number of beds to care for COVID-19 patients.
He urged all Guatemalans to adhere to preventative measures and expressed concern about the communities with high number of cases.
In addition, some hospitals are requesting additional staffing to assist with the COVID-19 response.
