Barcelona knock off Real Madrid as the World’s Most Valuable Football Club

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Forbes Magazine says Barcelona are the most valuable football franchise in the world overtaking rivals Real Madrid.

According to Forbes, Barcelona are worth $4.76 billion, just a little bit more that Real Madrid valued at $4.75 billion. Forbes said that over the last 16 years, England’s Manchester United have been Number One 11 times while Real have held the spot five times.

There are six English clubs in the Top Ten.

Bayern Munich is third in the Forbes ranking with a value of $4.215 billion followed by Manchester United in fourth at $4.2 billion.

Liverpool valued at S4.1 billion hold the fifth spot.

The next five are Manchester City ($4 billion), Chelsea ($3.2 billion), Arsenal ($2.8 million), Paris Saint-Germain ($2.5 billion), and Tottenham Hotspur ($2.3 billion).

The following ten are Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid, Inter Milan, Everton, AC Milan, AS Roma, West Ham United, Leicester City, and Ajax.

Forbes said the average worth for the top 20 most valuable football teams is $2.28 billion each. That is an increase of 30% from two years ago, the last time Forbes published the ranking. The increase is despite a drop in revenue caused by the pandemic.

Forbes said this happens because the big investors worldwide have seen the huge number of fans who follow the football clubs and the potential value these have and have therefore made more investments in the sport.

When it comes to sports in general, the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys are the top team in the world with a franchise value of $5.7 million but they have less than 16 million social media followers. Barcelona (fourth overall in the world) and Madrid (fifth) have more than 260 million social media followers apiece.
