National Fire Service: Youths burned down house on Pitter Street

By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize National Fire Service (BNFS) says that the house fire at #11 Pitter Street over the weekend that destroyed one house and damaged another was a case of arson by some neighbourhood boys.

Station Supervisor for the BNFS Kenneth Mortis explained that the house, which was previously inhabited by the Ramos family was unoccupied and was the site for multiple break-ins by youths in the area.

“Unfortunately, because of nobody being present at the house at the time, these perpetrators set the house ablaze,” Mortis said.

The house was completely destroyed, with a few pieces of household items. Meanwhile, the adjacent house, occupied by the Sandoval family, received fire damage outside, and inside. A piece of furniture was also destroyed by fire. BNFS personnel managed to extinguish the blaze without the house being destroyed.

No one was injured during the incident.

Ramos family relocated within the Belama area, had furniture inside. Over the past few months, neighbourhood boys broke into the house.

House totally destroyed, family lost a few pieces of furniture, the adjacent house occupied by the sandoval family, took fire damage to the entire length of the west side of the house, there was heat and water damage.
