By BBN Staff: The home of a well-known fruit vendor, Edgar Vasquez, was destroyed on Sunday, April 11 following an eviction order.
Vasquez has been living on parcel 3697 in Bradley’s Bank area of Santa Elena for a few years.
In 2016, Vasquez went to the San Ignacio lands office and was given a letter stating that he was the sole occupier of the land and was in the process of receiving a lease.
He then visited the Lands Commissioner and was told to wait for a call to continue the process.
However, in 2017, Vasquez was told that Andre Depaz has a 2012 lease for the same land.
Then in 2020, Depaz took the matter to the courts where Vasquez was given a December 17, 2020 court order to vacate the property in 30 days.
Vasquez continued to live on the property and in February 2021, he received a new parcel of land when the Minister of Natural Resources, Cordel Hyde visited Santa Elena.
Anyone wishing to assist Vasquez can call him at 654-5654.
