By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Real Madrid are on the road today but given their 3-1 win last week they are favourites to make it the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. However, the fighting spirit of the Liverpool rivals is not going to make it an easy run for either.

13-time champs Real Madrid are the only back-to-back Champions League winners and this tournament is their specialty. Despite not having backliners Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, and now Lucas Vásquez, they are still a formidable side, what with their 3-1 roll over Liverpool last week and their 2-1 win over Barcelona in la Liga on the weekend.

They are certainly riding high, but Liverpool have been in situations like these countless times and have overcome. The question is, can they do it again today?

“When you are 3-1 down it looks like we are already out; it means we have not a lot to lose,” Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said.  “We will give it a try – that’s the job we have to do. If we can create more than we did in Madrid – which should be possible as we didn’t have a lot – then we will see. We cannot take comebacks for granted especially with no crowd. We will create our own atmosphere again.”

But Madrid are in Liverpool to win says Real Madrid manager Zinédine Zidane.

“We’ve come here to win, and that’s what we are going to try and do,” Zidane said in the pre-game press conference. “We’ve spoken about how after the first leg and Barcelona at the weekend we put a lot into the games physically, but we’re used to that kind of effort. This side always pulls together whenever its backs are against the wall and that shows the character we have. We are going to fight all the way on two fronts. We are alive in both competitions and we will go for them until the end.”

The thing is that today who is against the ropes is the home-standing Liverpool, not Real Madrid. They are depending on guys like Salah and Mané to get them over the hump.

The match starts a 1:00 p.m. at Anfield.
