Commission of Inquiry into the sale of Government assets resumes today

Posted: Thursday, April 15, 2021. 9:16 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: The Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the sale of government assets resumes today at 9:00 a.m.

The three-member Commission is Chaired by Andrew Marshalleck who is backed up by Public Service Union (PSU) representative, Luke Martinez; and Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry representative Marcello Blake. The Commission is tasked with investigating the sale of government assets during the period October 2019-November 2020.

The exercise, which began back in February has called a number of department heads, managers, the Auditor General, and even former Prime Minister Dean Barrow to testify on various matters.

The last session focused on the questionable sale of livestock from Central Farm to relatives of a former government minister and revealed that a handyman gave another minister a loan of $65,000 so he could purchase a vehicle, which was later resold for a higher price.

The proceedings will be live-streamed on the Government of Belize Press Office’s Facebook page.
