Haiti’s Prime Minister resigns

Posted: Thursday, April 15, 2021. 8:53 am CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Haiti’s prime minister Joseph Jouthe announced on Wednesday that he was resigning his post.

This comes amidst rising discontent and violence in Haiti.

AP reports that Jouthe served as prime minister in the government of President Jovenel Moise since March of 2020. He reportedly resigned previously but Moise did not accept his resignation.

This time around Moise did and said on Twitter that Jouthe’s resignation “will make it possible to address the glaring problem of insecurity and continue discussions with the aim of reaching the consensus necessary for the political and institutional stability of our country.”

Haiti has had eight prime ministers since 2015.

The president appointed Claude Joseph as prime minister.
