By Benjamin Flowers: Tomorrow, Saturday, April 17, the Belize Brain Awareness Society (BBAS) is hosting an awareness walk/run in Belize City.
The activity, done in collaboration with fitness expert Karen Rosito, is geared towards sensitizing the public about the numerous conditions that can affect the brain as well as raise funds for the organization to continue its education and advocacy work. The event starts at 6:00 a.m. at BTL Park on Princess Margaret Drive.
Kaylia Nunez, the founder of the BBAS, explained that the organization provides information about brain conditions in three major areas: neurological issues, mental issues and learning disabilities.
“With those combined, it gives us close to 600 disorders or illnesses that we look at for the brain, including the spinal area as well,” Nunez said.
She stressed that participants are to be aware of the current COVID-19 regulations, which have recently been updated.
T-shirts and facemasks will be on sale, the proceeds from which go towards offering medical assistance for patients affected by brain disorders.
The event will also feature raffles and giveaways for participants.
