By Zoila Palma: A flyer posted on the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council Facebook page a few days ago sparked public outrage after it reminded that anyone who operates a business, online or established is required to apply and get an approved Trade License.

Several residents of the Twin Towns took to social media to express their disappointment and discontent at the Council for calling on online businesses to pay trade licenses.

The Town Council has since issued a new statement saying that its intention was to sensitize the public on Trade Licenses.

” The San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council is well aware of the economic crisis that our country is going through during this Pandemic. With that said the notice recently put forth regarding new business is not a target to any one type of business. Our intention was to sensitize the Public to the Trade License Act so as to establish your business properly and to ensure that all businesses are treated fairly under the Act & on an equal playing field,” the council explained.

Several vendors told BBN that in 2020 they were visited by Town Council employees reminding them that they need to apply for and get a Trade License for their businesses operating online and from their home.
