By Zoila Palma: President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei said today that the World Health Organization’s (WHO) COVAX initiative, established to ensure equitable access of COVID-19 vaccines is a ‘failure’.

Giammattei says that he has written to COVAX to protest their irresponsibility in the distributions of the vaccines.

Prensa Libre reports that Giammattei protests COVAX because of the 3 million vaccines that Guatemala had acquired from the facility, it only received 81,000 doses.

Giammattei says that the other vaccines in country were donations from India.

The President said that the Russian Sputnik V vaccines are soon to arrive in the country and was acquired outside from COVAX.
