Roxana Lemus wins Run 5K, Feed 5 Strays race in 25:20

By Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Run 5K, Feed 5 Strays race raised BZ$611.00 for the Belize City Animal Aid group to assist in their animal rescue initiatives.
The virtual race started on April 4, 2021, commemorating World Stray Animals Day, and concluded on April 18.
Organizer Cindy Blanco said 50 persons worldwide participated in the Run 5K, Feed 5 Strays race. Their registration fees and donations raised BZ$611.00.
Brandon Adolphus won the men’s event while Roxana Lemus won the women’s category.
The Belize City Animal Aid group said that the stray animal population “has always been a challenge in Belize” and that “local rescue groups have gone above and beyond to do what they can to rescue, medically treat, and rehome strays.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation with “an alarming increase in abandoned pets across Belize causing more financial strain on these non-profit organizations.”
“We want to thank our sponsors and Total Time Belize. Most of all, we are so grateful for all the support from our running friends and donors here at home, the USA, France and even Taiwan. It makes us very hopeful for the future of animal rescue in Belize,” Blanco said.
Since fundraising events are more difficult with the COVID-19 restrictions, the organizers are very much appreciative of Total Time Belize, which afforded them their platform to carry out the virtual race.
“Total Time Belize has given us the opportunity to raise the funds that we need to continue rescuing, treating, spaying, rehoming, and saving stray dogs and cats. It’s a platform that allows anyone, anywhere to run or walk the 5k distance for a very good cause,” said Blanco.
