Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, community members discuss re-opening of borders and tourism

By Zoila Palma: On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, Andre Perez hosted a community meeting at Mahogany Hall.

Perez says that the purpose of the meeting was to engage governmental departments, the tourism, and private sector in discussions on the challenges of COVID-19 measures on tourism and other sectors of the community as well as preparations for the re-opening of the borders.

Participants in the discussions included personnel from 10 governmental departments including the Police, Immigration, BAHA, Health, NEMO and Coast Guard among others.

The meeting was chaired by CEO in the Ministry, Kennedy Carillo.

“An important outcome of the session was the establishment of a community task force which will be meeting to develop a framework for action to address key issues in San Pedro as well as Caye Caulker,” Perez said.

Also present at the meeting were Mayor Wally Nunez and Chairlady of the Caye Caulker Village Council, Seleni Pott.
