By Aaron Humes: Minister of Education Francis Fonseca has described the Budget as “tough” and “honest” for its times, addressing critical issues frugally and creatively.
Fonseca committed to maintaining education not only as free but meaningful from ABC to UB, particularly calling out the institution’s president, Dr. Clement Sankat, and saying that UB needs “Belizean leadership.”
In culture, Fonseca promises a revolution of ideas and ideals, a revival of the arts and letters and a return of the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH), which has been kneecapped by lost revenue from tourism.
But Belize can only succeed, said Fonseca, if we all work together and do our part, and so he called on the unions to understand and give the Government time to fulfill their mandate.
