‘Restore our Earth’- Earth Day 2021

By Zoila Palma: Today is being commemorated globally as Earth Day 2021.

The theme for this year’s Earth Day is ‘Restore our Earth’.

For more than 50 years, people around the world have engaged on re-forestation and conservation activities to bring awareness to the importance of environmental protection.

The Belize Audubon Society (BAS) has embarked on a ‘Greening across Belize’ initiative to encourage all Belizeans to plant and engage in re-forestation activities.

The BAS also hosted a ‘Plant a Mahogany tree’ initiative where it gifted Mahogany trees to families to plant in their backyard.

“Conservation awareness starts at home and in our communities, so BAS is proud to partner with communities to encourage good stewardship of our natural resources for years to come,” the BAS stated.

The Forestry Department has also partnered with municipalities across Belize to bring awareness to and encourage others to plant more trees.
