Posted: Friday, April 23, 2021. 3:43 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining through the National Hydrological Service (Hydrology Unit) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), through its MacPhail School of Energy Integrated Water Management program in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The Ministry and SAIT agreed to potential benefits in cooperating on research on Belize’s water resources, sector, and management.

Common areas of interest in Belize between both entities include:

(1)     optimization of hydrometric monitoring network;

(2)     saline water intrusion in coastal regions;

(3)     surface water resources; and

(4)     groundwater resources.

The Ministry says that the MOU includes cooperation between both parties on matters such as research on Belize’s water sector, resources and management by experts from SAIT and training by experts from SAIT for the staff of the National Hydrological Service.

The Ministry says that it welcomes this opportunity to foster partnerships beyond its borders to advance integrated water resources management and research in Belize.
