April data reveals Mexico-US border crossings remain at all time high

Posted: Sunday, April 25, 2021. 10:32 am CST.

By Zoila Palma: Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States of America is dealing with another crisis, illegal border crossings.

Recently, there has been an increase in border crossings especially unaccompanied minors.

The Washington Post reports that unauthorized crossings along the Mexico border have remained near 20-year highs in April.

The latest figures indicate that about 50,000 migrants are traveling as part of a family. The number of arrests and detentions along the border for this month is estimated to be at 172,331.

The Biden administration has worked to reduce the number of unaccompanied teens and children held in Border patrol stations.

To date, there are over 21,000 teens and children being held in emergency shelters.

Daily, about 550 teens and children have been crossing the border unaccompanied.

Several officials believe that the short decline in numbers for April may be due to expanded Mexican enforcement on their part.
