By Benjamin Flowers: Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations (DGR) in Sharjah, the third-most populated city within the United Arab Emirates(UAE), has recently concluded a meeting with Ambassadors from four Central American Integration System (SICA) nations, geared towards strengthening economic and cultural cooperation, reports Gulf Today.

Sheikh Fahim met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Costa Rica in the UAE, H.E. Francisco J. Chacón Hernández; Ambassador of the Republic of Panama in the UAE H.E. Ricardo Laverie; Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in the UAE, H.E. Julio Simon Cataños Zouain; and Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala in the UAE for the ensuing discussions H.E. Lars Henrik Pira Perez.

The discussions focused on forging closer cooperation with cities worldwide by facilitating inter-institutional exchange and learning between Sharjah’s entities and their global counterparts was another key focus area for DGR, as well as making a sustainable impact on both local and international communities by promoting knowledge and cultural exchange as key enablers of economic development.

“The chairman stressed the need for Sharjah and SICA members to look at emerging opportunities especially in the sectors of publishing and translations and expressed deep interest in exploring the possibility of organizing cultural events to showcase the rich history and culture of Central America to UAE’s populace.” Gulf Today noted.

Possible areas of cooperation discussed at the meeting include renewable energy, logistics, smart city solutions, and eco-friendly technology.

Sheikh Fahim explained to the Ambassadors that the DGR’s goals embody the vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
