By BBN Staff: Breaking Belize News (BBN) has become aware of a proposed boycott of our media house by some factions of the unions supposedly over the airing of paid political ads featured on our newspage.
As a privately owned, independent media house, BBN has granted unbiased news coverage to the unions in their plight over the years and intends to continue to do so. It is unfortunate, however, that these factions of the unions would seek to target the free media in this manner if indeed this decision has been taken.
BBN understands the union factions have singled out our media house, as well as Love FM, and it is interesting that none of the other “mainstream” media houses with obvious political affiliations have not been included in this boycott.
BBN, like all other media houses in Belize and many others all over the world, is a private business with a staff and bills to pay. BBN has no stake in either side of this dispute and will remain in a neutral position. As a part of the private sector, our staff took up to 50 percent salary cut at the start of the pandemic, and against this backdrop, it is unfortunate that these union factions would seek to disparage our business when they are engaged in a battle regarding their own finances at this current moment.
We hope to dialogue with union leaders and avoid any further escalation of this matter.
