Galen University congratulates Celso Poot on his appointment as Director of the Belize Zoo

By Zoila Palma: Today, Galen University extended congratulations to Galen Eagle Celso Poot on his new appointment as Director of the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center.

Poot has been working at The Belize Zoo since 1995 and in 2008, he became the Manager of Operations and Finance where he worked closely with Sharon Matola, the zoo founder.

Poot will provide leadership and vision for the institution and will be supported by the existing management team of 9 other members.

Celso holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Environmental Science from Galen University and the University of Indianapolis; a Master of Arts in Zoology from Miami University’s Global Field Program; and is currently a PhD candidate in the School of Natural Resources and Environment, University of Florida, in Interdisciplinary Ecology with a concentration in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation.

Poot says that he is honored and humbled by this new opportunity.

“I am looking forward to continuing working with our team as we strive to carry on the legacy Sharon left us. We are certainly well-positioned to do this,” Poot expressed.
