By Rubén Morales Iglesias: During his daily press conference, Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador thanked Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel for the 1,000 medics Cuba sent to Mexico to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic said Reuters.
“For this gesture of solidarity, I will speak to the president of Cuba in a moment … to express our appreciation for their generosity,” López Obrador said.
Reuters said the Cuban president Diaz-Canel tweeted that he had spoken with López Obrador about how to confront the COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
“I expressed appreciation for his work for the integration of Our America,” Diaz-Canel tweeted.
Díaz-Canel, who succeeded Raúl Castro Ruz as secretary-general of Cuba’s Communist Party last week taking the top spot in the Cuban political pyramid, said Cuba is interested in expanding health collaboration with Mexico.
The Cuban president said he also informed López Obrador of the progress Cuba is having with two of five vaccines the Caribbean country is developing. Those two are reportedly in the third phase of trials which is expected to be completed within a few weeks.
