Gang leader and several affiliates arrested during police crackdown

By BBN Staff: Police have arrested an alleged gang leader and several gang affiliates this week, in an effort to stem the sharp rise in violent crime being witnessed in western Belize recently.

A total of six men were arrested: Russel Hyde Jr., 28, for being the leader of the RCG, Thrillers, and Gully Side Gangs; Michael Adaniel Middleton, 24, for being a part of the Gullyside/RCG/Drillers and Outlaw Gangs; Malcolm Joseph Hyde, 20, for being a member of the Genaside Gang; Anthwan Galvez,18, for being a member of the Genaside Gang; Aaron Hyde, 20, for being a member of the Genaside Gang; and Luis Patrick Marin, 20, for being a member of the Genaside Gang.

They were all arraigned in the Belmopan Magistrates Court where they pleaded ‘Not Guilty’ and were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 30, 2021.

Under the 2018 amendment Crime Control and Criminal Justice Chapter 102 of the Laws of Belize, “А реrѕоn whо іѕ а gаng mеmbеr, оr іn оrdеr tо gаіn unlаwful bеnеfіt рrоfеѕѕеѕ tо bе а gаng mеmbеr, соmmіtѕ аn оffеnѕе аnd іѕ lіаblе оn ѕummаrу соnvісtіоn tо іmрrіѕоnmеnt fоr а tеrm nоt ехсееdіng 10 уеаrѕ.”
