By Zoila Palma: Today, Prime Minister John Briceno made a public appeal to teachers to return to the classrooms.

The Prime Minister says that the Education Minister, Francis Fonseca continues to meet with school management and members of the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) to ensure that schools re-open safely.

“Children need to go back to school. I am appealing to the teachers, I know how you feel… like it is unjust but I am appealing more than ever that the students need you in the classroom,” Briceno said.

Briceno says that the protest is punishing the students.

“ I spoke to some principals and council of churches and their assessments show that up to 90% of students were not in par to where they are supposed to be,” Briceno stated.

He urged that it is about the children and they need the assistance.

“We are in this together,” the Prime Minister said.
