By Aaron Humes: Having been commended the General Revenue and Appropriations Bill 2021-2022, 2021, the Senate is meeting this morning to debate it and other bills and motions brought from the House of Representatives.
Unlike the lower house, the Upper House has representation from trade unions and civil society in the person of Senator Elena Smith, President of the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU), whose members will make their voices heard outside the National Assembly building.
But whether Smith can obtain support from fellow non-government organizations like the business community, the churches and NGO’s is another matter.
The Opposition will be represented by Senators Michael Peyrefitte, Sheena Pitts and a third who will amplify the concerns first raised by their House colleagues.
The debate begins at 9 a.m. and we will have all the highlights as the day progresses.
