By Zoila Palma: Three schools in Northern Belize have been awarded ‘Green School Grants’.
The Belize Audubon Society (BAS) visited the communities of Chunox and Copper Bank to hand over $1000 grants to Copper Bank Roman Catholic School, Chunox RC school, and Chunox Seven Day Adventist School.
BAS says that the grants have been made available through their Single-Use Plastics project to create awareness of the national single-use plastic phase-out and the issue of plastic pollution.
The $1000 grants will be used to improve garbage disposal facilities at their schools, including proper garbage disposal pits and secured garbage bins at school compounds, school gardens, and garbage compost and sorting area, as well as promoting cleanliness among their school population.
BAS thanks the Mesoamerican Reef Fund -MAR Fund for the funding of the project.
