By Benjamin Flowers: American business magazine Forbes has listed Caye Caulker as one of the cheapest islands on earth that expatriates (expats) should consider going into early retirement and moving to.
In a recent article, Forbes references a report prepared by International Living (IL), an Ireland-based publication with a global circulation and 40
years of publishing content on retirement and living around the world. A total of 5 islands were ranked in ascending order based on how much it would cost to live there for a month. Caye Caulker placed fourth on the list, coming in after Phu Quoc, Vietnam; Isla Colon, Panama; and Penang, Malaysia respectively.
“Caye Caulker, a five-mile-long island off the coast of mainland Belize, is a charming Caribbean island where ‘go slow’ is the motto,” says International Living. Expats love nature, water-related outdoor activities, as well as abundant inspiration that attracts a lot of artists, photographers, and writers. A couple can live comfortably here starting at (US)$1,500 a month,” Forbes said.
The top three spots on the list in ascending order were held by Mallorca, Spain; Malta; Ireland. Being mentioned alongside such global destinations in publications such as International Living and Forbes emphasizes Belize’s increasing popularity as a must-visit destination within the region and adds to a growing number of articles that began within the past few years, encouraging ex-pats to come to Belize.
