By Zoila Palma: The United Kingdom (UK) has committed to sending oxygen generation units to India as the country battles a deadly second wave of COVID-19.
According to a statement from the UK Government, the oxygen generation units will be sent from surplus stocks in Northern Ireland to support India in providing more oxygen to hospitals.
In addition, the UK sent 495 oxygen concentrators and 200 ventilators from their surplus stocks.
The assistance was sent in response to a request from India for urgent assistance.
This week, India recorded its highest amount of daily infections and the death toll has surged past 200,000.
“This is just the latest example of UK-India collaboration throughout this pandemic, to the benefit of both countries and the world,” a statement from the UK Government said.
