Belize City down, only San Pedro left for Ian ‘Lion’ Gordon to complete 8-Day Tour of Belize

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: This morning, Gordon, 43, completed the seventh stage of his Run Around the Country in his old hometown Belize City starting and finishing at the Baron Bliss Lighthouse before jumping on a boat to San Pedro, where he’s been living the past 22 years.

After seven days, Gordon has only the San Pedro, Ambergris Caye leg left to complete his now 110-mile run. And that comes up on Monday at 8 am.

“This morning all of 16 people ran with me, the Stone Fit crew, Mr. Tucker, and a host of others who I want to big up,” Gordon said. “I’d like to thank the whole crowd that came out to support me this morning and I want to tell them to continue doing what you do, ‘keep dehn head on dehn body,’ and focus.”

“We went from the Baron Bliss Lighthouse, straight up to BTL Park, past the Karl Heusner Hospital, to the Philip Goldson Highway, hit Chetumal Street and Lake Independence Boulevard, Faber’s Road, Port Loyola, Yabra, Regent St by the House of Culture, took Rectory Lane to the waterside on Southern Foreshore, Swing Bridge, North Front St, passed the Tourist Village and made it back to the Bliss Lighthouse,” Gordon said.

“We did it in 2 hours, 52 minutes and though the course was 14.42 miles, because, you know, ‘leave no soldiers behind,’ I went to bring back everybody, I actually did 16 miles according to my watch.”

In his tour, Gordon has covered the mainland going from Corozal, Orange Walk, Punta Gorda, Hopkins-Dangriga, San Ignacio & Santa Elena, Belmopan, and Belize City. Putting in 13.1 miles every day, except Thursday in Dangriga when he did 15.51 miles and Sunday in Belize City where he added 16 miles, he’s run 97.1.

On Monday, May 3, when he’s done San Pedro, ‘Lion’ will have run 110.1 miles in his unique celebration of five years since he ran his first marathon.
