Ian ‘Lion’ Gordon finishes 8-Day Tour of Belize on Monday in San Pedro

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: For seven days, Ian ‘Lion’ Gordon has been running around the country and now has only the San Pedro, Ambergris Caye leg left to complete his now 110-mile run. Initially he was looking to do 104.8, running 13.1 everyday, but along the way he’s added five more miles.

Gordon is doing this ‘Run Around The Country in celebration of his five years of running marathons.

“What better way doing what you do and celebrating what you do for the accomplishment,” he said.

Gordon has been accompanied during his country run by his daughter Nyla Gordon, 16, a third-form student at San Pedro High School. He says he’s very proud of her.

In his tour, Gordon has covered the mainland going from Corozal, Orange Walk, Punta Gorda, Hopkins-Dangriga, San Ignacio & Santa Elena, Belmopan, and Belize City. Putting in 13.1 miles every day, except Thursday in Dangriga when he did 15.51 miles and Sunday in Belize City where he added 16 miles, he’s run 97.1.

On Monday, May 3, when he’s done San Pedro, ‘Lion’ will have run 110.1 miles in his unique celebration of five years since he ran his first marathon.

“We’ll start at Central Park, go all the way over the bridge, past Matachica and then come back, we’ll take a right to the Back St, we’ll come behind Sacachispas, go through Sacahispas, come all the way down to the Co-op, take a right to the Middle St, straight down to San Pedro RC School, take a left and another left to Front St and finish at the Central Park. We’re starting at 8 am,” Gordon said.
