By Zoila Palma: On Monday, Moderna announced that it will supply the COVAX facility with up to 500 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine by the end of 2022, the Voice of America reports.
The news comes as Sweden had announced to also send 1 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to COVAX.
The global vaccine facility for equitable access for vaccines especially in low income countries continue to seek ways to acquire more COVID-19 vaccine doses.
By the end of 2021, Moderna would have supplied 34 million doses more
Through the deal, COVAX would acquire the vaccine at the company’s lowest tiered price.
“We recognize that many countries have limited resources to access COVID-19 vaccines,” Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel wrote in a press release.
On Friday, the Moderna shot was approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization.
