Ministry of Agriculture, Fооd Ѕесurіtу, аnd Еntеrрrіѕе’s Annual General Meeting coming to a close

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After two days of presentations the Annual General Meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fооd Ѕесurіtу, аnd Еntеrрrіѕе (MOA) came to a close yesterday afternoon.

Partners in development presented on how they are interconnected and collaborate with the MOA.

Registrar Miriam Serrut presented on the controls offered by the Pesticides Control Board, director Francisco Gutierrez gave an account of the work of BAHA, director Leticia Westby related on the Sugar Industry Research and Development Institute, and Climate Smart Officer Alfred Serrano spoke on Resilient Rural Belize.

There were also presentations by manager Mindy Garcia who detailed the work of the Belize Livestock Producers Association, assistant general manager for Lending Operations at DFC detailed the investments by the Development Finance Corporation, and executive director Leroy Almendarez gave an account of Beltraide.

The afternoon started out with senior trade economist Richard Reid speaking on the Directorate for International Trade at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representative to Belize Omaira Avila speaking of the services provided by the Caribbean Agriculture Research and Development Institute (CARDI).

They were followed by FAO national correspondent Armando Aban who spoke on the work of the Food and Agriculture Organization, representative Gabriel Rodriguez Marques on the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), while country representative Fermín Blanco explained the work of OIRSA (the International Regional Agricultural Health Organization).

 Final speakers were: Taiwan Technical Mission lead Diego Tsai speaking on the Belize-Taiwan ICDF Project, Economic, Trade and Cooperation Affairs officer at the Mexican Embassy María Fernanda Garrido explaining the Belize-Mexico (Amexcid Project), while executive director Christina Garcia closes with a talk on the Ya’axché Conservation Trust.

Chief Agriculture Officer Andrew Harrison, who gave the main address, closed off the MOA’s AGM with the vote of thanks.
