By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) cannot hold competitive cycling events even though the Government announced that on May 1 non-contact sports could resume activity.
Cyclists who have been training on the roads do unofficial runs, but the CFB cannot sanction any event because the Statutory Instrument (SI), which details what may or may not be done has not been published.
“About two weeks ago we got [an] announcement that racing has been given the green light and we would be clear to go by May 1st,” Edison Usher who is a member of the Cycling Federation of Belize posted on Cycling Live Belize on Thursday.
“Even though we have been given the Covid protocols go-ahead from the Sports Minister, there is one main obstacle that has us on hold. That is the official SI from Central Government. According to the way the law goes, we are still bounded by the last official SI. So, in order to race, a new SI needs to be released stating that the previous one has been resolved [sic]. Until then. We wait!”
